About_me

Past research experiences

I was a postdoctoral fellow in Prof. Udo Schwingenschlögl's research group at the Physical Science and Engineering Division, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia from 2018 to 2022. We used surface functionalization to transform two-dimensional materials into complex origami structures and tune their properties.

I earned my Ph.D. in mechanical engineering at Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), South Korea under the supervision of Prof. Sung Youb Kim, and experienced my first postdoctoral training there. During this time, I also worked closely with Prof. Harold Park (Boston University, USA). We focused on material and structural elastic instabilties, surface effects, and materials with abnormal properties such as negative Poisson's ratio, negative coefficient of thermal expansion, and mechanical non-reciprocity.

Education

  • UNIST, Ulsan, South Korea
    Ph.D. in Mechanical
     Engineering, 2010 – 2015
Dissertation: Elastic instability of cubic bulk and nanoscale materials
    Supervisor: Professor Sung Youb Kim
  • HCMC University of Technology and Education, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
B.Sc. in Mechanics, Engineering Teacher Education (minor),  2005
     – 2010

Selected Awards

  • The UNIST Best Research Award, UNIST, 2016, given to the distinguished doctoral graduate
  • Research Excellence Award, School of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering, UNIST, 2015
  • Excellent Presentation Award, CAE and Applied Mechanics Division, the Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers (KSME), 2014
